Ok I really hate doing this but I am desperate. I am 40 yrs old and made a descent living my whole life.. Until now.. I am a single mom of a bipolar child, father is not paying child support, he is on drugs and no help in raising our child what-so-ever. I have no parents or siblings. Every job I've had in the past 2 years I have had to quit because my son keeps getting kicked out of afterschool care. Hes been diagnosed for 2 yrs now.. (since the first removal). He was even kicked out of a mental health clinic afterschool care due to outbursts, he was considered a liability. My son functions well at home and school. Its the fact that there are no afterschool programs qualified to handle him. I have had several babysitters that just dont work out. My type of work (Info Technology) is just a field that is not available part-time, and whatever I can make part time is nowhere near enough to pay the bills. How is a single mom with a child with disabilities to support her and her child? I keep being told ask friends, relatives and neighbors. First of all - the people I know either work and cannot do it, or have issues of their own and cannot care for my child. I would love more than anything to work and take care of my child. After 2 years of contacting multiple state resources involved in this area including Case Management, his school, psychiatrist, behavioral assistant, psychologist, parent advocacy groups, etc... its been concluded there are no places to care for him afterschool. I have survived financially the past two years by one, a small inheritance from my moms life insurance after she passed away, and two begging people to watch him on a daily basis to get by with a temporary job until that no longer worked. Social services says they will not assist me because my son has a disability and that is an SSI issue, and there is no reason I cant work. SSI is supplemental income and he was denied after I received the inheritance, so I applied again and currently waiting for decision within 3 months. Social Services needs the denial letter from SSI before assisting me with cash, rental assistance, food stamps, etc. In the mean time, Ive been BORROWING money from the only family members that I have 1 aunt and grandmother and my ex-husbands mother. They all have told me they can no longer help with watching him, or money because they have their own lives and this is my son and my responsibility. But I really dont know what I can do to provide for us for I cannot earn the money for their is no place to watch him afterschool, holidays, sick days, etc. Any suggestions? I would appreciate any advice you might have.
